Simple Techniques for Recharging Amid a Hectic Schedule

It is hugely important to find moments to rest and recharge even amid a hectic schedule.

Here are some simple, effective ways. See if you can do either with even less effort

1) Mindful breathing exercises. Taking just a few minutes to focus on your breathing can activate the body’s relaxation response.  Inhale easily and smoothly through your nose, feeling the breath go down your neck, down to your lungs. Exhaling the same way. Not necessarily changing anything, just feeling and noticing your breath, in through your nose, down your neck and into your lungs. Eventually smoothing out any edges of your breathing. The exhale is a letting go of content, content of your day.  See if you can remain stable within your body as you breathe.

Maybe if you feel like it, try counting the same count on your inhale as on your exhale. Three counts in, three counts out, or as much as eight in and eighth out, or as little as 1 in and 1 out, without strain. It is just so that your breath is smooth and even. Eventually feeling that your whole body is breathing.  Not just your respiratory organs.  If you get distracted with your thoughts, just bring your attention back to your breath and settle within your body.

2) Close your eyes. Imagine you have a pencil on the end of your nose and draw the infinity symbol with your nose. (A figure of eight on its side.) As you draw the symbol, see if you can slow the movement down and make the movement smooth and even. You might notice that you have to ‘let go’ or soften inside so that the movement is smooth. See if you can make the movement so small and even if someone is watching you they cannot tell that you are moving.

After either exercise see how you feel inside and notice if there are any changes within your body.

I would be interested to hear how you found these short little exercises.
