How To Make A Change This Year

We can not deny it, another year has gone by. When you look back to January 2018, do you remember how you felt then? What hopes, dreams and ambitions did you have? And how do you feel now? What are your hopes for the new year?

Maybe, like myself, you are not all that obsessed with new year resolutions? After all life is stressful enough. Perhaps it is not the answer to add more restrictions, rules or stresses to the new year that we will struggle to stick to. Then again, how much more exciting is life when we know there is at least one thing we can change, one dream we can make true?

The message I have for everyone who is willing to hear it this January is:

What is possible for others in the world is also possible for you.

It is that simple when it comes down to it. When we fail it is only feedback, telling us we went about things in a way that did not work for us.

If something comes to your mind now that you want to change about you or your life, the below tips may help you.

1. YOU CAN

First of all, just because you have not been able to achieve your goal before does not mean it is impossible. It just means you have not found the right way for you yet.

2. THINK ABOUT THE IMPACT OF YOUR GOAL

What will achieving this goal give you? What will it change? How will it positively impact your life? Also, will others be impacted by you achieving your goal? Check that you are fully comfortable with the changes that achieving your goal will cause for you and those you love.

3. FIND A ROLE MODEL

If you do not have the experience of achieving your goal yet, perhaps you can think of someone else who has achieved it. Visualise them, really feel that what they can do, you can do too.

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED

Think carefully about what you need in order to achieve your goal. If you have struggled with this before, what kind of support would have helped you and how can you put this support in place this time?

5. RESOURCE YOURSELF

What kind of qualities would you like to support yourself in achieving your goal? Perhaps it is confidence, resilience or calm? What ever it is, spend a bit of time remembering times in the past when you really experienced those qualities in you. Keep thinking of those memories often. What was it like? What did you see and hear in that memory? What did you feel? What was it like to have that quality? Allow yourself to have it now.

6. WHAT DO YOU GAIN FROM THE STATUS QUO

If you have not achieved your goal in the past, be really honest to yourself and ask yourself what you get out of not achieving your goal. It may not feel right, however if we sabotage our own ambitions in some way we do this for a really good reason. We may not like the reason however there is something we gain from the status quo. It is crucial to be open to ourselves in order to understand what it is. Only if we identify what we gain from the status quo can we put other strategies in place that give us the same vital thing without being held back from achieving our goal.

7. HOW LONG DO YOU NEED

Be kind to yourself and your life. What is a realistic time frame for your goal?

8. DREAM THE DREAM

Take a moment to really visualise yourself having achieved your goal. What will you look like? What will you be doing? How will you feel? See your own little movie in your head of your success.

9. BE THE STAR IN YOUR OWN MOVIE THIS YEAR!

Now it is time to take action and let the sky be the limit.
