What is Yoga Therapy?
Have you ever heard people mention Yoga Therapy but not quite sure what it actually is? Have you heard of yoga but don’t know the difference between Yoga classes and Yoga Therapy?
In a nutshell Yoga Therapy is a yoga practice tailored to support different health conditions. Yoga Therapy is a growing field and there is lots of evidence supporting it for various health conditions.
A personal Yoga Therapy session would be on a one-to-one basis where a yoga practice is specifically tailored to your needs. The Yoga Therapist starts by taking an in-depth medical consultation to ensure that your physical and emotional needs are taken into account when preparing your specific Yoga Therapy practice. Each session would consist of breathing and postural assessments. The practice would be yours to take away and practice at home: it would consist of breathing exercises, yoga poses, and relaxation.
As well as one to one sessions Yoga Therapy can be in small groups. The sessions are tailored to specific health conditions. i.e. anxiety, depression, back pain, menopause.
Yoga Therapy involves gentle yoga practices so no yoga experience is required and something that is always peoples concern is flexibility. No flexibility is required!!
